As with any politician, regardless of political persuasion, job one is staying in power. Doling out favors to supporters is one way to do so. &lt;br&gt;Call me cynical, but I believe politicians buy votes. Why do we have a deficit? Because vote buying is more important to a politician than the economic future of their constituency. &lt;br&gt;I agree that Obama's election, even if it is the true legacy of Karl Rove, creates some opportunities. But I don't believe he is any less likely than any other politician to always keep at least one eye focused on his next election.
